Mounting an on-camera monitor sounds simple until you actually try it — the wrong mount either can’t hold the angle you need, slowly droops under the monitor’s weight over a long day, or eats the one cold shoe you also wanted for a mic. Mounting a monitor on a gimbal (DJI RS series) adds a wrinkle — the mount needs to clamp onto the gimbal’s own rail without adding twist or wobble that shows up in the shot.

Cold Shoe Extensions & Multi-Mount Plates

Cold Shoe or NATO Clamp: Which Should You Buy?
- If your camera or cage only has built-in cold shoes (most stock camera hot shoes, many half cages) → cold shoe mount.
- If your cage has a dedicated NATO rail (most full cages, top handles) → NATO clamp mount holds more securely and repositions faster.
- Running a gimbal? Use a gimbal-specific mount — a generic cold shoe mount can slowly twist loose during moves in a way that’s hard to notice until you check the footage.
- Carry at least one cold shoe extension plate — it’s the cheapest fix for “I need one more mounting point” on almost any setup.
