How this works: the simplified ratio divides width and height by their greatest common divisor. Pixel aspect ratio (PAR) accounts for non-square pixels by widening the effective width before the true display ratio is calculated. The nearest named aspect is whichever standard cinema or video ratio has the smallest percentage difference from your resolution’s ratio.
